Save a Ton of Money on Buying Used College Textbooks.

Every college student is know for being cash deficient.  I am surprised in this day and age that a struggling college student would pay retail on a product he will use temporarily and on a product he can get up to 70% off.

I made the task of giving 7 tips on how to save real money when buying college textbooks.  This is exactly what I do to put some more cash in my pocket.

1. Early Buying Online-  This is the main reason why kids pay retail on textbooks.  They wait until the  last minute when the professor is already taking off points and kicking out of class students for coming to class without a textbook.  Two other great reasons to buy early is to consider that prices go higher as demand goes higher and to also consider the amount of time needed for shipping and handling.   Colleges generally provide a list of textbooks requirements for each course, if not contact the professor or the library, they will give you the names and keep you ahead of the curve. The earlier you buy the more you save.

2. Buy Secondhand. They are obviously cheaper.  I myself have purchased for 40 dollars what I would have paid 110 dollars for.

3. Older Editions.   It has been my experience that teachers get bothered by the textbook association changing editions every semester to keep selling books and killing trees.  Teachers in my school most of the time are completely ok with you bringing in an older edition of the textbook.  Most of the time the textbooks are 99.99% the same.

4.  Search using the ISBN Number- Searching is a lot easier with the Unique ISBN number every book is assigned. You will be surprised how easy you find the book you are looking for.

5. Fast and Free  shipping. When shopping online the best place to find a used textbook is Amazon.com check the shipping time as this will be one of the most important factors when purchasing a book you need by next week.

6. Do a little shopping around. Great websites to shop around are Amazon.com and Ebay.com  You will be surprised even within the same site at the difference in prices.  This will be great evidence in eBay.com

7.  The most savvy students sell while they shop.- While online sell your textbook.  You can use Amazon or eBay to do this. These websites have a feature that by inputting the ISBN number you don’t need to take an actual picture, they have one on file.  Write a short description and you are ready to go.  It pays to take care of your textbooks.  It will keep more money in your pocket and more freedom in your life.  Best wishes and happy hunting?

Best time to purchase your book is right after your previous semester finished. At this time demand would be low and supply will be high. Students don’t realize that about 20% of their tuition expenses go towards college or your pocket… you choose.
